Fire Safety Week
Students and staff from M.M. Hopper Elementary received a visit from the Wharton Fire Department last week in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. The importance of smoke detectors in all homes and how to "stop, drop and roll" was discussed. The firefighters demonstrated appropriate gear for fighting fires so that students would not be scared in case of an emergency. The students were allowed to put out the "fire" under the fire departments supervision. Teachers supported Fire Prevention week in the classrooms by discussing 9-1-1 and including reading, writing, community and art activities throughout the week.
