7TH GRADE
TEXAS HISTORY
My
name is Dana Jung and I will be teaching your child 7th grade
Texas History this year. The textbook we will be using is Texas
and Texans. Along with the textbook, I will be
supplementing with other books, handouts, pamphlets, and videos about
Texas. I will also encourage each student to bring from home
articles from newspapers and magazines that pertain to Texas and share
them with the class.
We
will be doing small research projects throughout the course of the year.
We will spend time in the library and in the computer lab as needed to
work on the different projects. I will be sending home notices
with your child explaining the projects, what is expected, and due
dates.
In
each six weeks’ period, I will record at least 12 grades, including the
student’s notebook, warm-up activities, and at least one test. A
test will be given at the end of each six weeks. To average
grades, I will use the formula identified in the Student Handbook
(test/projects 50%, daily work 35%, six weeks exams and semester exams
15%). Students will be expected to turn in all assignments by the date
due. If this does not occur, a score of zero will temporarily be
recorded. The student will be given time to get the assignment complete,
at which time the highest grade the student can receive on that
assignment will be a 70.
My
classroom rules are very simple but important. They are as
follows:
1.
Be in
your seat when the tardy bell rings.
2.
Have all
materials needed for the class.
3.
Raise
your hand for permission to talk.
4.
No
food/gum allowed.
5.
Respect
each other and each others property.
The consequences for not following the rules are identified in the WJHS
Tiger Life Plan on pages 41 and 42 in your Student Handbook.
I
have attached a copy of my classroom rules for you to review with your
child. Please sign that page and have your child return it to me
as soon as possible.
I
am excited about having the opportunity to teach your child and am
looking forward to an excellent year!
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or
concerns. I have encouraged your child to see me any day before
school (7:40 – 7:55) or after school (3:15 – 3:35) if he/she has any
questions or needs assistance with an assignment.
