GOALS:  As your child completes the assignments in Reading, he/she will be learning many skills.  He/she will also have an opportunity to read many different types of writing.  These experiences will help to improve his/her reading pace, vocabulary, comprehension, and TAKS scores.

ZERO POLICY:  When an assignment is given, the due date will be announced.  Students will be expected to turn assignments in to the teacher by the date due.  If this does not occur, and other arrangements have not been made with the teacher, detention will be assigned.  The student will then be expected to complete the work in detention.  THE HIGHEST GRADE A STUDENT CAN EARN ON A LATE ASSIGNMENT IS A 70.

There will also be many opportunities for you as a parent to participate in your child’s learning.  These include listening to your child read, being a role model and reading yourself, helping your child study, etc.  If you would like more specific suggestions for additional activities, please contact me.

If at any time you would like to visit with me concerning your child’s progress, please contact the Jr. High office at 532-6840 to schedule a conference.   I am also available after school on most days.  Please let me know at least a day in advance, so I can make arrangements for my children.

GRADING POLICY:  Grades will be based on daily assignments, special projects assignments, unit tests, and six week’s exams.  In general, each student should receive a minimum of two grades per week to determine the grade prior to the six week’s test.  The average of all tests, prior to the six week’s test, will count 50%.  The average of all daily work will count 35%.  The six week’s exam will count 15%.

MAKE-UP WORK POLICY:  When a student knows that they will be absent, they need to get their assignment in advance.  The work will be due the day they return.  When advance notice is not possible, IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE ASSIGNMENTS THEY MISSED.  The student has the same number of days to complete work as they were absent.  For example, if the student is absent for 2 days, then he/she has 2 days to complete the missed assignments.  If more time is needed, the student must make arrangements with me.

TARDIES:  Students are expected to come to class with all necessary materials and to be seated by the tardy bell.  If a student has to return to their locker for a textbook or assignment they will receive an unexcused tardy.  An unexcused tardy will also be recorded if a student must go to the office for a blue absentee slip.
