The focus of this English Language Arts class will be to improve the writing and reading skills learned last year by studying different types writing and forms of literature .  Students will learn to write for various audiences and purposes.  One of the most important aspects of writing is an author's voice and style.  To create ownership in a piece of writing, each person must bring their own experiences to it.  The best way to do this is to write often.

The literature book used is McDougal Littell's The Language of Literature.  Each student has his own book to use throughout the year; plus we will be working out of the Interactive Readers,  a companion piece to the literature program.  The curriculum will be broken down into units of study done.

At least one major novel will be covered sometime this year. The actual novel or novels will be determined at a later date.  Other projects will be assigned through out the year.
