Seniors, remember it
is your responsibility to come to the counselor’s
office to ask for scholarship opportunities. Be sure
to watch the bulletin so you know they are available
in our office. Ask a teacher for a bulletin if
needed. But, it is up to you to come by to pick
them up.

scholarship opportunities for you to look into are:

Capital Farm Credit
Scholarship - must be pursuing a career in an
agriculture related field. Scholarship must be used
at an institution of higher education, including
junior college and technical/trade schools.

National FFA
Collegiate Scholarship - If you are in FFA, go to
FFA.ORG to apply for this scholarship.
-
Pilot Club of
Wharton, Texas.
Must
have taken either the SAT or ACT, must rank in the
upper half of your class, teacher recommendation
letter. Must be postmarked no later than March 15,
2008.

Prairie Switch Riders “Bikers for Brains” Scholarship
- Deadline: Must
be mailed to chairperson by March 15, 2008.
-
Texas
Association for Bilingual Education (TABE)
provides a $1000.00 scholarship for students planning
to pursue a teaching career in Bilingual Education.
The application & eligibility criteria is available at
our website at
www.TABE.org or for more information call our
offices at 1-800-822-3930. You can also come by the
counselor’s office for an application. Applications
are due on or before March 15, 2008.

TABE Scholarship for Future Bilingual Educators.
Applicant must have
applied to or be enrolled in an accredited Texas
college or university, must declare a specialization
in bilingual education or show evidence of his/her
intent to pursue a career in bilingual education, must
have at least a 75 average as shown on transcript &
report card, must have 3 letters of recommendation.
Applications must be mailed to committee on or before
March 15, 2008

Catholic Daughters of the Americas -
Applicant must be
Roman Catholic, must be son/daughter, legal dependent
of a Catholic Daughter’s household or
grandson/granddaughter of a living CDA grandmother,
must rank in the top 50% of senior class.
Deadline: Must be turned into the counselor’s office
by March 27, 2008.

Bright Minds Scholarship -
Must be 2008
graduate from Wharton, Boling or East Bernard to be
eligible. Deadline: Must be returned to the
counselor’s office by March 31, 2008.

Fiesta Hispano
Americana - must attend WCJC after graduating
from WHS.
Deadline: postmarked no later than March 31, 2008
-
Knights of Columbus.
Applicant’s father must be a Knight of Columbus
(Catholic). Application must be mailed to committee
by March 31, 2008.

WCJC 2008 Alumni
Association.
Must have a letter of reference from a teacher,
counselor or principal. Must be received by the
committee by March 31, 2008.

William Smith Sr.
Scholarship.
Applicant must have attended the Head Start Program in
Wharton, have 3 letters of recommendation and a high
school transcript. Must be mailed to the committee by
March 31, 2008.

100 Club of Wharton
County, Inc - Must be a graduate of WHS or a resident
of Wharton County for the past 5 years, plan to major
in Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice & must satisfy the
admission requirements of the chosen college.
Deadline: no later than April 1, 2008.

Daughters of
the Republic of Texas Cradle of Texas Chapter
- Applicant must be able to trace his/her lineage back
to the Republic of Texas. The ancestor must have
been in the Republic prior to February 1846.
Deadline: must be returned to the committee by
April 1, 2008. Come by the counselor’s office
for an application.

The Alpha
Iota Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International - Must be a female who
intends to major in education, recommended by her high
school counselor, in the top ¼ of her graduating class,
must use award during the fall of 2008 at a college.
Deadline: No later than April 1, 2008

The Golden
Scholarship.
Must be African American with a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale. Deadline: Must be mailed to the committee by
April 1, 2008.

Wharton County Farmer's Union
Scholarship -
Parent/guardian
must be involved in production agriculture. (Ex.
Farmer, feed store, sales of agricultural equipment)
Must be mailed to chairperson no later than April 3,
2008.

Don’t Mess
With Texas Scholarship On the first scholarship, students
must write an essay identifying a specific litter
problem at their own school or community and the
action they took to address it. The second
scholarship requires an essay of 300-350 words
describing how you would assist the Don’t Mess with
Texas campaign in its efforts to put a “Litterbug in
Every Car”. Deadline April 4, 2008. Come by
the counselor’s office for more information.

Laurance Francour & Heather Felder Tiger Star Memorial
Scholarship -
Student must have
been enrolled in at least 2 years of drill team.
Deadline: must be returned to the counselor’s office
by April 4, 2008.

Gulf Coast Medical Center.
Applicant’s parent
or legal guardian must be currently employed full-time
by GCMC, applicant must live with said full-time
employee, must be attending college in the fall of
2008. Must be mailed to committee by April 8, 2008.

Renee Rose Memorial Scholarship -
Must attend college
or university in the fall of 2008. Deadline: Must be
in the counselor’s office by noon on or before April
11, 2008.
-
Amber Hensarling Memorial Scholarship.
Must have at least a 3.0 GPA, a short essay about your
goals, needs, personal values & qualities. Must be
mailed to committee by April 15, 2008.
-
Rotary Club of
Wharton - Applicant must attend WCJC in the
fall of 2008. Come by the counselor’s office for
an application. Deadline is April 15, 2008.
-
Wharton High School Class of 1959
Scholarship - Applicant must attend WCJC in
the fall of 2008. Come by the counselor’s office
for an application. Deadline to turn in
application is by April 15, 2008.
-
Wharton Athletic Booster Club.
Applicant’s parent/guardian must be a member of
Wharton Athletic Booster Club for the current school
year, participation in athletics for at least 2 years
with participation in at least one sport at the
varsity level, must be in good standing with WHS.
Must be returned to the counselor’s office by Friday,
April 25, 2008.

Accu Tax Service
Scholarship -
Applicant must be a
minority, must be active in at least extracurricular
activity, and must attend a Jr. College, tech school
or University in the fall of 2008. Deadline: Must be
turned into the counselor’s office by April 28, 2008.

Texas Student Housing Scholarship-Application
deadline April 30, 2008.

The Don Rivera
Memorial Scholarship:
Must have a 3.0
GPA, copy of your high school transcript, a short
essay on your goals & why you should receive this
scholarship. Deadline: Must be in the
counselor’s office no later than April 30, 2008.

WHS Class of 1979
(In Memory of Sheree Reynolds Key)
Must include
completed application, transcript, list of community
accomplishment and a short essay on your future goals
and how this scholarship will have help you achieve
this goal. Must be turned into the counselor’s
office by April 30, 2008.
