Dawson Elementary School Dress and Grooming Code for School year 2007-2008 Dawson Home | 4th Grade | 5th Grade | 6th Grade | WISD Home
|
The C.W. Dawson Elementary component dress code and grooming policy mandates that all students will wear clothing consisting of any combination of the following components. All clothing will be free of any large designs, writing, or logos except school, club, or team logos on shirts. (The key to understanding the dress code is to simply understand that clothes which are plain with no distracting accessories will more often be acceptable. The key work here is" plain".)
Shirts:
Plain red, navy blue, or white poly (2 or 3 button) style shirts (must have collars) with a full length shirt tail (which can be tucked in and stay, as all students must have their shirt tails tucked in at all times while on campus).
Plain red, navy blue, or white button up shirt with collar and full-length shirt tail.
Plain red, navy blue, or white turtle neck shirts with full-length shirts tails.
Shirts may have short or long sleeves, must have collars and must have full length shirt tails.
Again, shirts must be tucked in, so shirt tails must be of a length sufficient to function in this manner.
There will be no large designs, writing, or logos on shirts.
Shirts with zippers and snaps are not permitted. Students wearing shirts with zippers or snaps will be asked to change shirts or will be placed in ISS until such a change can be made.
Shirts must be long sleeved or short sleeved. Shirts with "cap" sleeves, tank tops, or any other exception to this policy will not be acceptable. Students wearing shirts with any sleeve which is unacceptable will be asked to change or will be placed in ISS until such a change is made.
PANTS, CAPRIS, SHORTS, SKIRTS, JUMPERS, SKORTS:
Khaki brown or blue heavy cotton fabric is required.
Navy blue denim traditional style plain jeans with no extra pockets, loops, designs or logos are allowed.
Walking shorts, skirts, and jumpers, capris (for girls only) and blue jeans factor made shorts which are no shorter than 4 inches above the knee for girls or below the middle of the knee for boys are allowed provided they are navy blue or khaki in color.
The following are examples of clothing which is not allowed, but are not intended to be an exclusive list:
Overalls and coveralls
Culottes
Baggy shorts, pants, or jeans (two or more sizes too large)
Jeans, pants, shirts, or skorts with extra loops, cargo pockets, decorations, or frayed hems.
Pants, skirts, skirts, capris or skorts with extra loops, cargo pockets, decorations, or frayed hems.
Hip-hugger jeans or pants
any clothing deemed by the administration to be a distraction from the learning process or otherwise inappropriate
5. All pants, shorts, skorts, jean shorts and the like must be worn at the waist. Sagging will not be acceptable.
Jackets and Sweaters:
Red, white or navy blue sweatshirts or pull over sweaters worn over collared polos, collared shirts, or turtlenecks may be worn in class provided they are of a solid color and have no hood..
Red, white or navy blue cardigan sweaters may be worn in class.
Solid red, white, or navy windbreakers may be worn in class provided they have a collar and no hood..
Large or heavy jackets may be worn during cold weather, but they must be left in the students' lockers. Large or heavy jackets will not be allowed in the classroom.
Belts, Shoes, Hat, etc:
Belts are required with all pants, shorts, and skirts that have belt loops. Belts MUST be through the loops and buckled, and the extra placed through the loops again. Pants which originally have belt loops require a belt unless the loops have been removed in such a way as to have no frayed material left. They can not simply be cut off without removing the whole loop and still be allowed without a belt.
Any brand and style shoe may be worn as long as they are secured on the feed and are not backless, and have no wheels or rolling devices attached in any way to the sole of the shoe..
No hats, headscarves, or headbands may be worn in the buildings.
Arrangements in the hair such as butterfly clips and the like or not allowed.
No bandanas may be worn or displayed at any time on campus.
Boys should wear any necklace, chain, or other such jewelry generally worn around the neck inside their shirt so that it will not be a safety concern.
Additional Information:
Boys may wear one stud earrings only.
Curlers in the hair or sunglasses in the building will not be allowed in the building.
Toys, radios, CD players, cell phones, or collector/trading cards are not allowed at school. If they are brought on campus, they will be confiscated and will be returned only to parents.
Hair cuts and styles must be simple and appropriate for school. An haircut which is deemed by the administration to be inappropriate in style or design will necessitate action being taken against the student until the problem is rectified. Boys may not wear a "tails" style haircut. Hair length for boys is as follows: in front, may not be in the eyes; in back, may not cover the collar; on the sides must not cover the ear. Additionally, students may not color their hair any color which is not a natural hair color or attach any hair extension which is of a different color than their hair.
NOTE: In addition to the dress code, we need to address another issue. In the past, back packs have not been a major issue. However, with the advent of the "rolling back pack" has come a new problem. We are asking parents to purchase only backpacks which will fit into the lockers at school. Most of the rolling back packs are too large to fit. That leaves us with the problem of finding a place to store the back packs which is safe from theft and the like. Therefore, we are asking that rolling back packs too large to be placed in a locker not be brought to school.
