WHS Dress and Grooming Code, 2004-05

DRESS AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE
The Districts dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority.  Students should be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others.  Student success depends, in part, on how the student perceives himself/herself and how others perceive him/her.  In this sense, defined standards of appearance assist the student in constructing a positive self-image and impression upon others.

The Staff of the school is charged with enforcement of the Districts Dress and Grooming Code.  Interpretation of these codes is entirely within their judgment.  Final determination of acceptable dress and grooming rests with the principal or his/her designee and cannot be appealed.

ATTIRE
The District prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the principals judgment may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normal school operations.  The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writing on jewelry that are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or that advertise alcohol or tobacco products or any other substance prohibited under board policy FNCF(L).

EXPECTATIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS

Students who feel that their appearance, or planned appearance, may not meet dress and appearance regulations should confer with the principal in advance, in order that no misunderstandings exist.  Students who feel that their appearance may not meet the standards of the dress code, and could not meet with the principal in advance, should bring an approved garment with them in the event the first garment is deemed inappropriate.  It is the responsibility of the student to be properly attired.  Students may present medical or personal reasons for exception/consideration by the administration.  Each will be considered on an individual basis and on its own merit.

COMPLIANCE
