WISD Board Bits – April 15, 2008

 

 

Call to Order

Campus Activity Report

Sally Kallina, principal at Hopper Elementary, presented a slideshow which told the history of the school, highlighted the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten curriculum, and showed a variety of student and teacher activities.

 

Commendations:

§        Marilyn Clark commended all of the people who worked in SivellsButterfly Garden

§        Wharton High School Varsity Tennis Team for their 8th District Championship

§        Wharton High School junior Varsity Tennis team for their 8th straight team championships

§        Sally Kallina commended all of the people who worked on the Hopper Stick Horse Rodeo

§        Molli Bodungen commended all of the sponsors and helpers at this years Special Olympics

§        The Wharton High School Speech and Journalism team members who placed at the district meet at WCJC

§        The Wharton High School Speech Team members who placed at the Regional UIL meet at Blinn College and especially state qualifiers: Chandra J and Michael P

§        Jennifer Mann commended the Dawson Choir for their awards at the Blinn College Music Festival

§        The WHS track team members who are regional qualifiers

§        State power lifters, Erich J and Chris O

§        Don Erdelt, retiring Board President, for 15 years of service on the Board of Trustees

§        Ronnie Bollom, retiring, for 9 years of service on the Board of Trustees

 

Action Items:

  • Approved the employment and contract of Dr. James Bartosh as Wharton ISD Superintendent
  • Approved the consent agenda
  • Approved the budget amendments
  • Awarded a contract for the WHS cafeteria roof replacement to Con-Tex Services for $76,588.00
  • Approved Stephenson and Trlicek as financial auditors for WISD

 

Reports

Mr. Hillis announced that the May Board meeting would be on May 19th because of the banquet schedule.

There will be a special board meeting on May 13 to swear in the new board members.

Hillis brought up two future issues upon which the Board will have to hammer out some details.  The first was the fiber cable to the new campus.  An agreement or contact with Center Point Energy will have to be reached.  The second is of the Performance Contract with Direct Energy.
