Wharton Independent School District is in Wharton, Texas, a community of 10,000 friendly, caring citizens, just 50 miles south of Houston. There are five schools in the district - Wharton High School (Grades 9-12); Wharton Junior High (Grades 7-8); Dawson Elementary School (Grades 4-6); Sivells Elementary School (Grades 1-3) and Hopper Elementary School (pre-kindergarten, kindergarten). The school district is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency. Wharton ISD graduates about 150 students per year who go on to pursue a wide variety of diverse interests. In recent years, Wharton students have been National Merit Finalists, Duke Talent Search Qualifiers, University Interscholastic League winners, Youth Fair Academic Rodeo finalists, state and regional qualifiers in several athletic and co-curricular events. Eighty percent of Wharton students attend college.
